One morning last week I had to leave the house early and because it was the school holidays my daughter was still asleep. Instead of waking her I hastily scribbled the following poem and pushed it under her door..
Sorry to miss you
Sorry to miss you
I did come to kiss you
but you were far away, sleeping beauty
Or Princess Buttercup dreaming summer days
I better get on my bike and take a hike to my office in the town
Love you, see you later
said the hippo to the alligator, I’ll be home in time for tea.
When I came home I found this delightful reply.
If I’m the princess then who are you?
My knight in shining armour to protect me from the dragon’s mighty roar. The bravest and most valiant throughout the land I’m sure.
Or are you my faithful steed, to carry me to safety whatever my need.
Whoever you are there’s one thing I’m sure, you’re here to protect me from the dragon’s mighty roar.

Often it seems we are always rushing away from the things that are the most important to us. It is these small precious moments that remind us what’s really important in life.
another talented writer in the family I see. I love that you wrote her a poem ~ such a lovely dad thing to do.

How lovely of you to write a poem and then for your daughter to reply so eloquently 🙂
