How do you use social media?

I use it as a way of connecting with people, developing good writing habits, and sharing my music. While genuine connection has seemingly become more difficult, often sacrificed to algorithms that prioritise paid or clickbait content, I’ve still made some truly genuine connections and friendships. For instance, I used Facebook to reconnect with an old school friend after years apart, and a simple comment on a photo blossomed into regular messages, and annual get togethers. When we met in person for the first time in twenty years, it felt like I was the protagonist from Disco 2000.

I’ve also had the incredible experience of co-writing a song with a poet from Canada, a fascinating process of weaving words and melodies across continents. I have met podcasters from America –bonding over Star Trek – and becoming friends and appearing on their shows.

I’ve also had the opportunity to speak with authors I admire, interview people who inspire me, and to receive thoughtful correspondence from them. These profound, lifelong connections are a testament to the human element that can still thrive online, if we connect with intention and genuine engagement.

On WordPress, I’ve met fellow writers, and just this week experienced a moment of wonderful spiritual resonance with another creative soul, a shared understanding that felt meaningful, especially during Holy Week, a week of deep meaning for me.

Given this, I feel incredibly grateful and will continue to intentionally seek out these authentic connections in the digital landscape.

Have you also found unexpected genuine connections online? I’d love to hear about your experiences in the comments.
