The track Cedar Lane by the brilliant duo First Aid Kit became a favourite in our house shortly after my daughter was discharged from hospital last year. My daughter came home after a serious illness and as part of her recovery she taught herself to play several songs on the piano, including this song.
It was amazing, she had never really played the piano before and she just worked out the chords by listening to the track and then made up a piano part for the song. Music helped her when she had to spend some time off school, it gave her a focus and a project. And my memories of that time are bitter sweet, I remember the anxiety of worrying for her but also long happy sunny days singing harmonies with her as she belted out this song with all her heart and soul.
