This is a picture of me taken very recently on my birthday.
I was given a wonderful gift of a ukulele and the first task I set myself was to learn Over the Rainbow. You can see by the look on my face that I took to the task with great seriousness and after about 24 hours I had cracked it.
I am not ready to go public with my rendition just yet, so in the mean time please enjoy the wonderful Israel kamakawiwo’ole’s version –
I love this version of the classic tune. It really is a remarkably flexible song, evidenced by so many distinctive versions. Eva Cassidy’s interpretation is devastatingly beautiful with its sparse arrangement. I often wonder if the writers Harold Arlen and E.Y Harburg had any idea how long their simple but brilliant little song would endure.
And in case you were wondering my age? I have just celebrated the 6th anniversary of my 29th birthday.
